Marine Technology Center
Project Description
This technical school and classroom building consists of CMU and structural steel with metal wall panels. The marine technical center will house classroom, lab and shop space and includes a clere-story down the length of the center of the building to allow in light as well as provide room for boats to be hoisted overhead in the mechanics area. The technical school and classroom building’s exterior includes a cable supported cantilevered canopy for architectural detail. The Academy was built under the Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol, a program similar to LEED. A vertically bored geothermal heating system consisting of fifty 340’ deep wells was installed to relieve the building of the need for natural gas. The project includes 213 solar panels to create an output of 48KW, the largest photovoltaic system in Washington State at this time.
