Last week held the grand opening event for La-Z-Boy in Issaquah, Washington. The event was well attended and guests included Chris Washko, Owner and CEO of La-Z-Boy Seattle, Issaquah’s new mayor Mary Lou Pauly, and also an appearance from Issaquah resident, Doug Baldwin.
Sierra’s work didn’t involve the actual T.I. build-out for this project; but the Sierra team took an existing building on Front Street in Issaquah that was previously a Staples, that was previously a Safeway, that was previously a Lumbermans… and gave it a complete overhaul, including the parking lot. Sierra’s work included taking the front façade off and building up a new façade with the traditional look of a La-Z-Boy, including multiple storefronts.
The project scope also included taking the parking lot that was previously designed with angled parking and re-build it with straight-in parking by installing all new cast-in-place curbs, new landscaping and a concrete crosswalk from the street… and all the while maintaining access to the landmark coffee stand in the corner of the lot throughout the winter.
An additional part of this project was the installation of the McNugget Memorial. Issaquah’s beloved rooster, McNugget, was a town icon for over a decade and resided in the store parking lot and visited the coffee stand’s customers. After his passing in 2015, town residents had requested a memorial. Sierra installed the bronze chicken feet inlayed into the crosswalk, installed the boulder that the bronze McNugget statue is standing on, coordinated the install of the sculpture with the artist, and then installed the bronze art panel supplied by others on the other side of the crosswalk.
