Project Completion: IPT Tacoma Logistics Center

A new industrial development providing over a million square feet of industrial warehouse space to the Port of Tacoma was completed in 2018.

The 54 acre site of IPT Tacoma Logistics Center was previously home of the Simpson Lumbermill, which closed in 2015. Sitework for this project included the demolition of the remaining lumbermill structures.

The 1,100,000 square foot industrial development has two buildings. The first, Building A, is 280,525 square feet on a 7” slab-on-grade with a 32′ clear height, 63 dock doors and 366 parking stalls. This building was constructed using 123 tilt-panels, the largest weighing 138,800lbs. Additionally, 10,200 cubic yards of concrete was used, 277 tons of concrete reinforcement and 205 tons of structural steel.

The larger of the two, Building B, is 828,620 square feet on an 8” slab-on-grade, with a 36′ clear height, 159 dock doors and 506 parking stalls. This building tilted in two phases, and used 173 tilt-up panels with the heaviest weighing 164,000lbs. 26,400 cubic yards of concrete was used in its construction, as well as 427 tons of concrete reinforcement and 438 tons of structural steel.

These buildings had unique facades; as opposed to the standard rectangular panels, both buildings implemented ‘winged’ tilt panels for the entries. These entries also feature corbel designs, which were poured during initial onsite panel construction.
