Kite Realty Group is redeveloping the Four Corner Square shopping center at Southeast Kent-Kangley Road and Maple Valley Black Diamond Road Southeast in Maple Valley.

A Kite news release says the Indianapolis-based company is doing the work in two phases. The first phase will add a 35,000- square-foot Johnson’s Home and Garden store, and 18,200-square-foot Grocery Outlet and 11,000 square-feet of retail space in a building between them.

The additions will expand the center from 44,000 to 109,000 square feet.

Crews are putting a roof on the Grocery Outlet, and tilting concrete panels for Johnson’s and the smaller retail building.

The second phase will involve renovations, updated facades and lighting, landscaping and parking lot repairs.

Kite also will build a two-lane road connecting Kent-Kangley and Southeast 264th Street.

The old Johnson’s will be demolished once the new store opens.

A 15,000-square-foot Walgreens will be built separately at another location on the site, and there are sites for future buildings along Maple Valley Black Diamond Road.

Other team members are Aero Construction, earthwork and utilities; SME Inc. of Seattle, electrical: Merit Mechanical, HVAC; State Mechanical, plumbing; Archer Construction, fire sprinklers; Lakeside Industries, asphalt paving; and PJ’s Super Construction, masonry, stucco and sheet metal.
